The overall aim of Workpackage 6 'Epidemiology and Risk Analysis' is to improve monitoring and surveillance systems by novel technologies (informatics) mostly in data analysis (risk characterisation), and to develop and use a risk-based approach to compliment the new diagnostic technology in establishing a European network of wildlife disease surveillance. This work includes the following components:

• Conduct an epidemiological analysis of historical and recent field data to quantify the spatial and temporal patterns of wildlife pathogens and the geographic distribution of risk factors to provide an overview of wildlife health status in the EU.
• Quantify emergent disease risks by assessing the consequence of changing pathogen distributions using statistical and dynamic modelling.
• Make recommendations for appropriate and proportionate management and policy actions based on the results of the risk assessment.
